Anitra is the Founding Executive Director of Azure Pittsburgh, a nonprofit program of Autism-Pittsburgh. Azure fosters community through free and accessible music and movement experiences for all ages, abilities and behaviors. We offer interactive concerts, engaging school programs, and soothing sound baths, designed for inclusivity, connection and joy. Cancer Bridges
Sound Baths
Anitra provides free sound baths and sound Reiki programs for anyone impacted by cancer. Whether you're a patient, survivor, caregiver, or grieving a loss, you are warmly welcomed. These relaxing and rejuvenating sessions are held at Cancer Bridges in Pittsburgh, providing a nurturing space for healing and connection. MegaTeam
Events
Anitra is a member of the MegaTeam, a group of sound practitioners and professional musicians created and led by violinist, sound practitioner and music professor Monique Mead. "Mega Surround" sound baths are held at different venues in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Surround yourself with the healing vibrations of dozens of singing bowls intertwined with traditional melodies at the next MegaTeam event.
Tiferet Project
Sound Baths
Through the Pittsburgh nonprofit Tiferet Project, Anitra collaborates with Cantor Julie Newman to offer sound bath experiences grounded in Jewish music, wisdom and ritual. Programs include Havdalah Healing, Monday Night Menuchah, High Holiday events, and the biannual Nourishing Our Roots and Attentive Heart retreats. Immerse yourself in a harmonious blend of tranquility and Jewish tradition.

About Me
Anitra Birnbaum, MD, PhD, practiced medicine as an Internist in Baltimore before becoming a stay-at-home mom of three. After moving to Pittsburgh, Anitra co-founded Azure Pittsburgh in 2021 and continues to serve as its Executive Director. Anitra is certified in sound healing, Reiki level 2, Sound Reiki, and forest bathing (Shinrin-Yoku). In her free time, Anitra also enjoys gardening, hiking, cooking, narrating audiobooks for the Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians, and paddling with the Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel dragon boat racing team.
